Boycott

Monday, September 24th, 2007

” Israeli rabbinic authorities have abruptly called on Jews to shun a major Christian tourism event, baffling and upsetting evangelical groups that traditionally have been big supporters of the Jewish state.

More than 6,000 Christians from over 90 nations are expected to arrive in Jerusalem this week to take part in the 28th annual Christian celebration of the weeklong Jewish holiday of Sukkot, or Feast of Tabernacles, according to the event’s organizers, the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem.”

Christians for Israel

Monday, May 14th, 2007

“On college campuses across the United States, Christian students are asking to join efforts to “make the case for Israel” alongside their Jewish counterparts, and this week their requests will begin to materialize.

A group of Christian Zionist students at a California university, will be trained this week in how to defend Israel in the face of campus attacks.

The training at California State University, Bakersfield is the first step toward establishing a college chapter of Christians United for Israel, a year-old organization based in San Antonio, Texas started by Evangelical Pastor John Hagee to rally Christians around support for Israel. The chapter will be the first of its kind. The hope is to establish similar “CUFI on Campus” chapters on college campuses across the United States.

Over the last few years, Hagee, author of several books about biblical prophecy and an opponent of territorial concessions to the Palestinians on biblical grounds, has a the face of the Christian Zionist movement, building close ties with several key Jewish organizations such as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. ”

Israel: Gaza

Monday, December 18th, 2006

Chris Hedges took a break from war reporting a couple of years ago. He wrote a book — War Is A Force That Gives Us Meaning. Then a few stories appeared about the lives of the poor and marginalized in American Cities, sad stories but not particularly dangerous to him. He couldn’t stay away it seems. This story about Gaza is chilling. Not new. Not unknown but as the Right has learned, the only way to get your message out is to repeat it and repeat it and repeat it. This is true even if the message is the truth.

The stark reality of Gaza, however, has failed to penetrate the consciousness of most Americans, who, when they notice the Israeli and Palestinian conflict, prefer to debate the merits of the word “apartheid” in former President Jimmy Carter’s new book, “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid.” It is a sad commentary on the gutlessness of the U.S. press and the timidity of the Democratic opposition that most Americans are not aware of the catastrophic humanitarian crisis they bear so much responsibility in creating. Palestinians are not only dying, their olive trees uprooted, their farmland and homes destroyed and their aquifers taken away from them, but on many days they can’t move because of Israeli “closures” that make basic tasks, like buying food and going to the hospital, nearly impossible.

Israel Opts for Major War Campaign in 11th Hour of Hamas Build-up

DEBKAfile Special Military Report

November 22, 2006, 5:07 PM (GMT+02:00)

DEBKAfile’s military sources disclose that Israel’s security cabinet decided Wednesday, Nov. 22, that there is no option but to launch a major offensive against Hamas and its terrorist allies in the Gaza Strip – both to pre-empt their war build-up and reduce Qassam missile attacks which climbed to 80 in the last ten days. The date remains to be set. Operational proposals were not submitted by the army chiefs, said the announcement, but held back for presentation to a smaller forum which the Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will summon.

Our sources note that special forces and Shin Bet units have already stepped up their ground operations against the missile crews in the northern Gaza Strip. These operations will soon evolve into a broader, harsher crackdown in other parts of the territory including the Philadelphi corridor.

The prime minister was finally convinced that the time for foot-dragging was over by intelligence data which showed Hamas hectically engaged in constructing state-of-the-art fortifications for withstanding deep incursions into the Gaza Strip. They are assisted by dozens of military advisers pouring in from Syria and Lebanon.

Israel’s Olmert Praises US War in Iraq

From the Forward:

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert raised eyebrows this week when he praised America’s war in Iraq as a “great operation” that brought stability to the Middle East.

Israel: Gaza

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Israeli papers and some US news are reporting that Israel let lose another horrific killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. I’ve heard audio clips and it is chilling.

According to some reports Israel has aplogized, blaming the “accident” on faulty co-ordinates fed to the guns.

Palestinian Women Dying

I got stricken messages this morning as people saw the headlines and photos of the women in Gaza being gunned down. I had seen the falling bodies on the news late yesterday.

Some reports lead with the information that fighters were hiding out in the mosque, fewer with the courage of the women.

PALESTINIAN mothers and wives braved Israeli helicopter gunships yesterday to rescue 15 fighters besieged in a northern Gaza mosque, using their heavily veiled bodies as human shields.

“We risked our lives to free our sons,” said Um Mohammed, a woman in her 40s, after the rescue that followed protests against a bloody Israeli operation in the northern Gaza Strip that has killed 24 Palestinians.

The Dispatch

In response an Israeli spokesman solemnly reminded the world that when a religious site becomes a military location armies are no longer bound by rules prohibiting firing on them. Well, yes. Though of course his statement is as obtuse as the strategy that thinks making Israel safer will be accomplished by firing on un armed, veiled women.
