WW I Glasgow Peace Demonstartion

Sunday, August 9, 1914, 5000 gather in Glasgow to shout down the just declared war.

George Hardie [Scottish Labor politician and half-brother of party founder, and radical pacifist, Keir] devoted his speech to attacking those who had taken advantage of the war to raise food prices.  It was remarkable, he said, that those who were shouting loudest for war were the people who were charging famine prices for food.  from The Forward (Glasgow), Saturday, August 15, 1914
